In the north-western part of Sicily we find the beautiful town of San Vito Lo Capo, nestled between two naturalist treasures of the most beautiful of the boot: the Zingaro Reserve and the Monte Cofano Reserve. The dream beaches, crystal clear sea, nature and the old town with its white houses make San Vito Lo Capo one of the ideal destinations for an unforgettable holiday!
The coast of the Sicilian town has been awarded several times by the 5 sails from Legambiente given the particular attention paid to environmental protection. The beach, awarded over the years as "the most beautiful beach in Italy" in the TripAdvisor ranking, is one of the best known in the region and is a favorite destination especially for families, as once in the water you have to go far to not touch. Behind it we find the old fishing village, on the right the imposing Monte Monaco and towards the west the 40 meter high lighthouse dominate the landscape.
The heart of the town is Via Savoia which, at dusk, comes alive with evening walks and shopping. The lights of the premises and restaurants give the center a magical atmosphere. Along the main streets and the seafront are most of the restaurants where to sit and try one of the typical dishes of Sicilian cuisine: from fish to meat, even if the undisputed protagonist of the culinary scene is the famous Cous Cous! Here in San Vito there is the Cous Cous Fest, celebrated every year in September. The event transforms the city into a big stage with shows, concerts and food competitions.
Of course, you should not miss the opportunity to savor the other excellences of Sicilian cuisine and pastry: on one side (salty) we suggest you try the cunzato bread and busiate, from the (sweet) there are cannoli and cassatine ready to delight your palate.
Among the symbols of San Vito The head and the places of interest we point out the Sanctuary (impressive and majestic with its size), the lighthouse (one of the largest and most important of Sicily), the temple of Santa Crescenza and the Museum of the Sea.
But the most beautiful aspect of this fascinating location is its location. From San Vito we have the opportunity to make excursions, trekking and cycling, spending so days in contact with nature. Not far from the city is the Zingaro Reserve, characterized by the presence of the dwarf palm, which transforms the landscape and the series of coves into a real paradise. Do not miss the Tonnara dell´Uzzo, the first beach you come into when entering the Reserve! Of tonnara in tonnara we remember that of the Secco and that of Scopello. To get to the Zingaro Reserve, cross the Gulf of Secco: here stands the ancient Tonnara del Secco, immersed in a landscape among the wildest in the area. The Tonnara di Scopello, however, we meet following the 10 kilometers of coastline towards Castellammare del Golfo, another very nice place to visit.
On the opposite side we find the Monte Cofano Reserve. Here the crystalline sea makes the coast one of the most sought after by snorkelers, while the paths for trekking and mountain biking do not make the circumnavigation of the mountain and enjoy the fantastic landscape. For those wishing to go beyond the Reserve we recommend the excursions to Erice and Trapani.
